Gleneagles is only about ten minutes away by car and here you will find three exceptional courses in the rolling hills of Perthshire - the challenging of the King's, the charming Queen's and the outstanding PGA Centenary Course designed by Jack Nicklaus which has be selected as the venue for the 40th Ryder Cup matches in 2014.
Carnoustie, the monster course that successfully hosted the 2007 Open Championship is the other side of Dundee, about an hour away.
An equal drive gets you to St Andrews perhaps the most famous Golf course in the world, dating back to the 1400s. As well as a great golf centre, with an array of other courses, St Andrews is also a famous University town of some charm.
These courses will need advanced booking, and some offer 'twilight tickets' when the afternoon becomes evening.
